Guidelines for Submitting a Success Story
We want to hear from you!
It is often said the best teacher is “experience”. Please share your experiences with Person Directed Care so that we may all learn from each others’ successes and mistakes!
The Iowa Person Directed Care Coalition is soliciting stories, articles and narratives from those who are out there promoting PDC in their homes and communities.
To submit a story or article, just follow these simple guidelines:
- Anyone can make a submission by emailing a narrative to: Nancy Wilde at nwilde@iaqio.sdps.org.
- Submissions should be from the author’s own experiences in implementing and/or living PDC.
- While we encourage the author to identify themselves and their home (facility), it is not required.
- The author is encouraged to also include contact information (i.e. email address) if they are willing to be contacted individually by anyone wishing for more information on their topic.
- Any topic that relates to PDC is permissible. How you successfully implemented a PDC program and the impact it made would be very beneficial to our readers.
- Less than successful and not so positive experiences may be shared (as we can learn and grow from these also), but please be respectful in the narration. Submissions with derogative remarks about any person and/or organization will be discarded.
- Submissions should be in a narrative form and can be either in the body of the email or as an attachment.
- Submission should be no longer than 500 words.
- No names beyond the author’s should be included for confidentiality.
- Each submission should include a subject line or title that identifies the main principle or topic of the narrative.
Once submitted:
- The submission will be forwarded to a review committee (2 people as assigned by the IPDCC Steering Committee).
- The review committee will review for appropriateness (relevant to PDC and no inflammatory content or breaches of confidentiality).
- The review committee may make minor editorial revisions for spelling or grammar that will not alter the content. They may contact the author to ask for clarifications and/or more information.
- Once approved by the review committee the submission will forward to Mindla White at mindla.white@dia.iowa.gov for posting on the IPDCC’s website. Attempts should be made to categorize like topics together.
- If the review committee has a question regarding the appropriateness of the submission they will ask for the full Steering Team’s review at their next meeting.
- All persons who receive and/or review submissions via email will adhere to strict confidentially, sharing the name of the author only when given permission.
