Inaugural Iowa Person Directed Care Conference a Success!

The first Iowa Person Directed Care Coalition conference which was held October 19, 2011 was declared an overwhelming success.  Over 120 attendees from all corners of the state were mesmerized by Eden Alternative speaker Denise Hyde’s energetic presentations on initiating, implementing and sustaining Person Directed Care in our homes.

Evaluations of the program demonstrated much was learned and much more is wanted (95 of 97 respondents felt the workshop helped them understand PDC while 94 of 97 are interested in attending future workshops on PDC).  Due to this positive response the Iowa Person Directed Care Coalition has decided to sponsor two more educational opportunities in 2012. Please be on the lookout for more information on upcoming conferences to advance Person Directed Care throughout Iowa!

For those attendees that wanted to keep in touch with each other (and isn’t networking the best part of conferences?!) we have a link to the list of participants who gave permission to share their contract information. If you would like to add your contact information contact us.

Welcome

Schedules and routines are dictated by the facility. Surroundings are drab and uninviting. Individual's input is sought and some preferences are applied. Environment in common areas is more inviting. Individual is offered more choices, often including when to wake, eat and bathe. Surroundings are more like home. Individual determines own schedules, activities, meals and caregivers.

The IPDCC brings together individuals and organizations committed to improving care through person
directed care activities. The group works to:

• Identify and address barriers to advancement
• Identify and share resources to help transform our current system
• Provide person directed care education
• Raise public awareness regarding the importance of person directed care
